Gambhir's a knock away from striking form: Raman
KKR batting coach backs opener to come good soon in the tournament

Two games, one win and one narrow loss, is how the Kolkata Knight Riders have fared thus far in the Pepsi IPL 2014. Jacques Kallis showed his class in the opening match, while in the second match, Manish Pandey and Robin Uthappa showed how much value they add to their batting line-up. Their captain, Gautam Gambhir, though has not had the best of starts this season. Gambhir got out on a duck both times, but that is not a cause for concern according to KKR batting coach WV Raman.
“Gautam Gambhir is just one knock away from striking form,” Raman said. “He is too good a player to allow this to happen for too long. Hopefully, he will get going sooner rather than later and once he gets going, you know what he is capable of. You know what has happened as far as results are concerned for KKR when he has got going. We are hoping that he will find his rhythm quickly.”
The game against the Delhi Daredevils went down to the last over. The Daredevils held their nerves to finish off the game in their favour as they handed a four-wicket loss to KKR. But Raman wanted to look at the positives from the loss. “We would like to look at the positives out of that game. We were in a tight situation in that game while batting, but we got out of it and posted a good score. The good thing about the team is that the guys are there to put their hands up and be counted.”
It is sill early days in the tournament, but KKR have their task cut out when they meet the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Thursday. It is a strong batting line-up that boasts the likes of Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Yuvraj Singh and the rest who have shown form in their two games so far. Raman said that his side has plans in place for the star batsmen. “We have our plans in place, but at the end of the day, it will all come down to the execution of those plans on the field. The pitch out here is fully in favour of the batsmen and it depends what happens on the given day during a tight situation. Despite being a small ground, it can work in the bowler’s favour sometimes. We did see quite a few catches going down, but eventually, it is about being there and keeping a positive frame of mind.”
